Rae Arora talks about important things about construction

According to a press release from the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), the work planned this weekend for the southbound Red Line service located at Argyle and Lawrence stops have been officially postponed for a later day.

So far the CTA has not announced an official date for when the work will be scheduled for. They have also announced that information will be distributed when it is available.

As of right now, the Southbound Red Line service will operate on time at Argyle and Lawrence stops.

«I take the «L» every day and construction on the track can lead to heavy delays. The longest I have had to wait on the train is 30 minutes. I was extremely late for work, but there is just nothing you can do. Most of the construction is to clean up the stops and make them look better. Most of the tracks need to redone too. All I can say is that at least everything is still up and running, with or without the construction. A lot of people would be out of luck if the «L» did not run,» said CTA user Bret Harris.

On Friday July 20th, CTA officially announced that it was the slow zone work planned for this weekend that would be postponed. This construction work would have closed the two popular stops/stations until 6 am on Sunday. As previously stated, no date for the rescheduled work has been announced.

«The Red Line is the line that drops off tons of Cub fans at Wrigley Field at the Addison stop. I'm sure that closing the Argyle and Lawrence stops would have been bad for a lot of Saturday commuters,» said CTA rider E. Brown.

However, although the Red Line's Argyle and Lawrence stops are open, construction will still go on at the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line between the Western/Milwaukee stops and Clark/Lake stops until 1 a.m. on Monday.

«The Blue Line currently has some of the worst construction I've seen. Another problem is that it's extremely busy with people going to and from the airport. Stations are packed. The «L» cars are packed. And when you have to wait, people just get frustrated. I know the construction is for the better, but you still have to deal with all the problems,» said CTA rider Tanya Banks.

CTA has organized buses to stop at Western, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand, Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson for the time being.

Medical issues in the works

My grandma has many medications, and I help her to keep track of them all. Medications can be very bad for you if not taken properly. I always make sure I check when refills are due, any side effects, expiration dates, and what exactly the medication is for. The most important thing to remember is to take your medication the right way. There are many things to be cautious and aware about with all medication. In this article I will discuss the steps to help you make sure your taking your medicine right.

The first subject I will discuss about medication is the side effects. The side effects are the most important factor for medications. My grandma was affected with some serious side effects of a diabetes medication. The medication caused weight gain, swollen ankles, shortness of breath, and loss of energy. She had to stop the medication right away or else she could have died. Side effects are different in people and affect them in many different ways. Some people will have side effects from a medication and another person with same medication won't. The medication that hurt my grandmother is now no long available because it has killed and hurt many people. You should ask your doctor or pharmacist about all possible side effects your medication could have. Some other questions are what foods to avoid, how different drug interactions can harm you, and what to do if a side effect does occur. A great way to understand more about your medication is the internet. I look up side effects of my grandma's medication every time she gets them. This way I can let her know so she can let the doctor know what medications are bad for you.

The next medication subject I will discuss is to tell your doctor everything. When you go to your doctor make sure you explain your problem thoroughly to the doctor. You should tell your doctor if you're taking any medication, herbal supplements, and what your symptoms are. The medication your doctor will prescribe you can cause reactions with other medicine your taking. This is why you should tell your doctor all your other medications and herbal medicine. Sometimes if you mix herbal with prescription it can sometimes harm you or help you. Another top is to let the doctor know if you drink or smoke. You want the right medication for your problem so say the truth.

The next medication subject I will discuss is to always double check how to take your medicine. My grandma has had this problem many times. When your doctor prescribes you a medication listen to how it should be taken. If you are not sure and will forget make sure you write it down. I always ask the pharmacist how the medication should be taken and what time of the day or night. Some of other questions I ask are what times to take the medicine, how to take it, how long, what to do about missed doses, and about overdoses. I always do this for my grandma so she has no problems with her medicine.

The next medication subject I will discuss is to not overdose. Some people take two drugs and if it doesn't work they take two more. This can cause side effects that can severely hurt you. Taking too much of one medication can cause the drug to affect you in other ways. For instance if you take a pill for a headache and then take two more before four hours. It can affect another body part with terrible side effects. Please try and take exact dose in the proper way to stay healthy.

The next medication subject I will discuss is to take your medicine on time I always make sure that my grandma takes her medicine on time each day. This is very important so you get the best out of your medication. If you are consistent and take it every day same time you should get the full benefit. My grandma used to have trouble remembering which medication to take and what time. She would get the medications confused with the wrong times and take the wrong ones. If you don't have someone to help you there are some tips you can do to remember. My grandma keeps her pills near things she uses and sees every day. She also keeps her pills on the table, and cabinet counter so that she sees them right away. Your pharmacist can also help you by giving you a pill sorter, and color coordinating your pill bottles.

The last steps for medication are to always check your prescriptions and never take other people's medicine. When a doctor gives you a prescription make sure you check it and understand what it says. The reasons for this are so your pharmacy won't give you the wrong medication. The last step is to not take someone else's medication. If you take a prescribed medication for your friend or family even if they have the same symptoms it's bad for your health. Their medication is not set up for your body chemistry and it can cause severe side effects. Medicine is very powerful and should not be taken like candy at school. You should follow all the rules that concern your medication because health should be your first priority.

Medications are the most important tools to being healthy. If you are on medications you have to take them right to stay healthy or you could suffer bad effects. Follow these steps and consult your doctor and pharmacist for more information.

Rae Arora talks about construction

According to a recent article, women in hardhats are forming alliances and assisting their sisters in the construction field in which they work.

Mentoring involves someone older typically who lends professional support to someone younger than them in the same occupation.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) have gotten involved in this process and expanding its services.

In 1993 and 1998 NAWIC signed contracts with two of the most powerful organization in the construction business, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

NAWIC, founded in Fort Worth, TX in 1955, has also joined forced with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for projects. NAWIC was originally called Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas.

NAWIC internationally serves 5,800 members in the U.S. and Canada.

March 4-10 is Women In Construction Week and it is celebrating its tenth year. The purpose of the Week is to increase visibility of women working in construction.

Proclamations are typically signed by mayors of cities to get the community involved in the Week. Trade fairs and other events are also coordinated with schools and other organizations during this time.

NAWIC also has a national awards program and other ways that they encourage women to pursue a job in construction.

Since 1995, the organization's Crystal Awards have recognized outstanding women in construction. Nominees are judged for five years of successful experience, community service involvement, construction association memberships, and participation in construction education.

The NAWIC locally sponsors a Block-Kids Building program for grades K-12 to promote construction. The NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF) has launched its third K-12 program so far. The CAD/Design/Drafting Competition is a contest for high school seniors. Through these programs, students learn the business end of construction.

Each year over $25,000 is awarded to recipients pursuing opportunities through undergraduate and construction trades scholarships. The application deadline is March 15th every year and more information may be obtained by going to nawic.org. Some local chapters award scholarships as well. To find a chapter near you, call 800-552-3506.

Every NAWIC chapter holds site walks, events, seminars, networking functions, and state awards for excellence.

In the United Kingdom women in construction only make up ten percent of the workforce. According to the Career Journal, in 1994 there were 718,000 women in the construction industry in the U.S.

The Region 12 Winter Conference will be held Jan. 26-27 in Claremont, CA at the Doubletree Hotel Claremont.
